River Tattoo focuses on creating custom tattoo works that are distinctively unique and closely connected to the stories and backgrounds of its clients. Each piece is designed according to the client’s requests, incorporating cultural or traditional tattoo elements from Indonesia, enriched with meaningful symbols and philosophies. These elements can include ornamental or symbolic motifs inspired by folklore, mythical characters, deities, and the spiritual or religious beliefs of indigenous tribes across Indonesia, as well as other cultural heritage influences relevant to the tattoo design. Animism and polytheism—terms commonly used to represent the diverse religions, beliefs, and artistic expressions found in Indonesia—play a significant role in influencing River Tattoo’s work. In addition, elements from Buddhism and shamanism are also frequently incorporated into the tattoos created by River Tattoo. River Tattoo is dedicated to producing unique and individualized tattoo designs as a tribute to the art of tattooing. Each tattoo is crafted using either modern tattoo machines or traditional tattooing tools, based on the client’s preference. Most of River Tattoo’s artwork is drawn freehand directly onto the skin before tattooing, ensuring that each piece remains one-of-a-kind and cannot be replicated like a design on paper.

Born and raised in Borneo (South Kalimantan/Banjarmasin), River Tattoo grew up alongside the traditional hand-tapping tattoo culture of the region. Tattoos became an integral part of life from an early age, fostering a deep passion for art and drawing. In 2007, River Tattoo worked as a graphic designer and photographer before ultimately pursuing a career as a tattoo artist. The journey into professional tattooing began in 2009 while living in Bali, where River Tattoo underwent disciplined training in tattoo artistry, learning design techniques and modern tattoo machine operation. After more than a year of rigorous training at a reputable tattoo parlor in Bali, this experience became the foundation for a deeper exploration of the tattooing world. Through books, online resources, and direct interactions with master tattoo artists from various tattoo art styles, River Tattoo continuously expanded knowledge and refined artistic identity. In 2011, River Tattoo moved to Germany, continuing a career as a freelance tattoo artist in several high-quality tattoo studios. Actively participating in tattoo conventions across Europe, River Tattoo further developed a distinctive artistic style. In 2022, River Tattoo established a private studio in Germany. As of 2025, River Tattoo remains highly active in numerous tattoo conventions across Europe, leaving a lasting mark through unique, custom tattoos in both studios and conventions throughout the region.
